THE MAKING OF LA CANTINE DU FAUBOURG

La Cantine du Faubourg was an interesting design challenge from the floor up. As an existing world-renowned restaurant in Paris, we had to understand the fundamental story before putting pen to paper. Taking La Cantine du Faubourg to Dubai, we had to adapt and develop what already has a large following, without compromising it’s heart and soul.

We stayed close to the simplicity of the existing Paris restaurant and explored this within our layout, lighting, furniture and materials. Understanding the ‘Art Gallery’ aspect of la Cantine du Faubourg, with a fun and casual twist, where clients could easily feel comfortable spending the day there or an entire evening.

There is nothing pretentious about this project as authenticity was the key. This is most prominent on the terrace where we have created an oasis within an urban jungle. This ‘oasis’ continues inside, divided only by a large timber pergola that is neither indoors or outdoors.

One of the overriding benefits of the Jumeirah Emirates Towers location is the view. We believe it is one of the most impressive perspectives in Dubai and wanted to keep this as an essential backdrop to the project, giving a number of different vistas and glimpses from wherever the visitor is sitting.

We reduced our materials to wood, stone and marble. Very simple, honest materials that would not distract from the ever changing art within the space. Sometimes simplicity is a very hard design process, but done well, it can achieve the outstanding results that we believe we have achieved here.
